Frequently Asked Questions
How do you get paid?
As a fee-only, advice-only financial planner, I am compensated on the planning services that we define together. I do not receive commission for selling financial or insurance products, nor do I charge an annual percentage on your assets like traditional financial advisors.
If you don’t manage investments, then what do you do as a financial planner?
Financial planning encompasses so much more than just investment advice! It also includes:
- Cash Flow and Debt Planning
- Education Planning
- Employee Benefits Planning
- Estate Planning
- Insurance Planning
- Retirement Planning
- Tax Planning
While I will not take control over your investment accounts, I will still offer investment advice on buying/selling, asset allocation, risk management, etc. and I can even provide support while you implement my recommendations, but you maintain 100% control of your investments throughout the planning engagement. I also believe strongly in education and will work to provide you with the tools and knowledge to manage your own investments.
Do I really need a financial planner?
It depends! (That may be a financial planner’s favorite phrase). If you have the time, energy, and interest to DIY your finances I believe that you can still achieve success. That’s how I started!
However, I do think that it’s always a good idea to get an outside professional to review your financial plan to make sure that there aren’t areas that you’ve missed or see if there are recommendations that you haven’t considered. You may not need ongoing financial planning if you’re comfortable managing yourself, but it might help to have your plan reviewed periodically or if you’re dealing with major life changes
How do I pick the best service for me?
Let’s chat! I’m happy to provide a complementary 30-minute call to discuss your financial picture, your goals, how we can work together, and if we’ll be a good fit. If you decide you’d like to work together after the call, I can send a proposal based on our conversation. While we will discuss your financial goals, I will not provide financial advice on this call.
